Urge Your Representative to Oppose the House Farm Bill

The House may vote as early as next week on the farm bill, which the Academy believes includes harmful changes to critical nutrition programs.

Changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program could result in more than 2 million people losing access to critical food assistance or having their benefits reduced. Major changes proposed for SNAP-Ed and the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program could ultimately impact the families whom these programs serve. Additionally, allowing the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program to include all forms of fruits and vegetables would take away a valuable learning opportunity for children.

Urge your representative to oppose the House farm bill. Ask your member of Congress instead to advance a farm bill that strengthens the nation’s nutrition programs.

Then, follow up with a phone call. Dial the U.S. Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask to be connected with your representative. Use the action alert as talking points!

Please contact the Academy’s Policy Initiatives and Advocacy Team if you have any questions. Thank you for supporting the Academy’s policy efforts.
