Great things are happening in New Hampshire WIC!!!!

Beginning summer 2018, the New Hampshire WIC Program will change the way food benefits are issued to WIC clients from paper vouchers to electronic benefit transfer, or EBT. In New Hampshire, we are calling this eWIC (or electronic WIC), which allows participants to purchase their WIC food benefits using a plastic card called an eWIC card.  Goodwin Community Health Center’s WIC Program in Strafford County is the pilot agency, starting in late July 2018.  Statewide implementation for all other WIC agencies will start in late October 2018.

This means that paper vouchers will no longer be printed and given to participants to spend at the grocery store. All participants will receive their food benefits electronically.

The benefits of eWIC for participants:

  • eWIC is convenient and easy to use.
  • eWIC is safer and more secure than paper vouchers.
  • WIC foods don’t have to be purchased all at once.

The desired outcomes for this transition are:

  • Participants continue to receive appropriate services, including breastfeeding and nutrition education.
  • Participants have a positive experience with eWIC.

Partners play an important part in this effort, please  share this information and refer your patients  and families to the NH WIC Program.
