Change is an inevitable part of life, and as NHAND stands at the threshold of a new chapter, we find ourselves bidding a heartfelt farewell to a leader who has been the guiding light of our mission. On May 15th we gathered at Onions Pub and Restaurant at the Tilton Inn to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to Linda for her outstanding leadership as executive director of NHAND for the past twenty years. We had an opportunity to reflect on her exceptional tenure and the indelible impact she has had on our organization as well as reminisce about some wonderful moments we’ve all shared with Linda.
Many guests and board members shared clear memories of the day they first met Linda. Every personal story or anecdote about the initial encounter with Linda during the “roast” conveyed the way her presence always radiated warmth and genuine care, making Linda not only an exceptional leader but also a cherished friend and confidant to us all.
As Linda embarks on her well-deserved retirement, she leaves behind an enduring legacy. It all began with her serving on the board of the Philadelphia Dietetic Association. Later she held various roles in Academy leadership, including Chair, for 25 years in DPG #41, Management in Food and Nutrition Systems. After moving to upstate New York, she became President of the Hudson Valley Dietetic Association. She continued to serve on the board of the New York State Dietetic Association and played a key role in assuming the management of the state’s Annual Meeting from 2000-2004. Just prior to that time, board members had discussed eliminating the meeting for financial reasons. Under Linda’s leadership and vision, the meeting transitioned from red to black with an attendance of over 500 members. In recognition of her outstanding contributions, she was named the New York State Dietetic Association’s Outstanding Dietitian of the Year in 2002. Her unwavering dedication and commitment to the profession of dietetics will continue to shape and inspire us as we carry forward the torch she has lit. Though her physical presence at conferences and laughter during Zoom meetings may be absent, her influence and teachings will forever remain embedded in the very fabric of NHAND.
On behalf of the entire NHAND membership, we extend our deepest gratitude to Linda. Your tireless efforts, boundless passion, and unwavering belief in our mission have brought us immeasurable success and growth. As you embark on this new chapter of your life, may it be filled with joy, fulfillment, and the same level of inspiration that you have bestowed upon us. Please don’t forget to make time to visit!
In bidding farewell to our esteemed Executive Director, Linda, we honor her extraordinary contributions, unwavering leadership, and profound impact on our affiliate. Linda’s hugs and special gifts remind us to cherish the NHAND culture she established “You are special, we are grateful for you, and we extend a warm welcome to you.”
